SAHARA HIGHWAY
31 jan 2011.Soon travellers will be able to take a ferry from Spain across the Straits of Gibraltar, drive through Morocco and the Western Sahara inte the heart of sub-Saharan Africa. This means an end to risky jeep journeys through the world´s most feared desert. The road is financed primarily by the Kuwait-based Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, along with the Mauritanian government that hopes the road will draw tourists to the country and that goods can be transported more cheaply from North Africa and Europe. On the other hand, some European governments foresee a risk that the road will increase the flow of immigrants to Europe.
